Job Description

SUMMARY

Our client, a manufacturing plant in Camp Hill, is currently looking for a Manufacturing Manager to lead their production team.


Responsibilities: 

  • Directly manages manufacturing supervisors, administrative and production control personnel and indirectly manages up to 350 hourly employees in a 3-shift Manufacturing (Processing & Packaging) Department. 
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Managing Processing and Packaging department objectives; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.
  • Achieves or exceeds all safety measures for the area. 
  • Monitors the implementation and attention to detail for lock out/tag out, SDS and Accident Reports. 
  • Identifies patterns or critical situations and develops corrective actions with the support of management and the Safety Manager.  Maintains membership and supports all Safety Team initiatives.  Makes regular safety audits of operations.
  • Manages the operations of production areas to ensure that safety, volume, cost, and quality standards are achieved. Ensures physical and staffing resources are adequate to meet the organization's production schedule. Manages the activities of production personnel including workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization to achieve optimal OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency).  Directs the implementation and maintenance of production standards. Assures employee staffing for plant operations meets established standards, with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.  Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap; monitors scrap and rework data. Achieve performance targets for productivity, labor efficiencies, on-time delivery, machine down time and inventory levels.
  • Achieves or exceeds all quality measures for the area.  Responsible for product integrity in conjunction with quality and food safety leaders. Monitors the implementation and attention to detail to GMP’s, allergen cleaning procedures, product quality measures, housekeeping, sanitation and the completion of hold/release tags.  Is knowledgeable in the area of HACCP plans and assures compliance.  Makes regular quality audits of operations. Leads the development of corrective actions plans relative to food safety.  Ensures execution and maintenance of corrective actions. 
  • Coach, mentor, and develop leaders and assess and create plans to grow the skills and competencies of frontline employees to meet current and future business requirements.  Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensures compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consults with Human Resources Department as appropriate. Administers company policies and guidelines.  Works with Human Resources for changes and/or clarifications when identified.  Monitors the performance of supervisors and coaches them in their development.  Holds regular one-on-one meetings with the supervisors.  Develops proper operator training programs and directs supervisors for proper implementation of training.
  • Directly responsibility for continuous improvement activities in manufacturing.  Facilitate the use of continuous improvement methodologies and projects to improve and streamline production processes.  With staff, leads employee engagement in support of improvement initiatives, generating ideas, conducting root cause studies and conducting Kaizen events.  Supports Production Planning to ensure that schedules are set up to most efficiently utilize our resources and reduce costs when feasible.  Understands and analyzes variances on direct labor, indirect labor, overhead costs and pounds per labor hour.  Is able to explain variances to management.  Is able to develop and execute plans to correct problems.  Understands operational measures and their impact to the Corporation.  Manages, tracks and communicates operational KPIs.
  • Responsible for Manufacturing month-end and year-end inventory tracking.  Makes suggestions for capital expenditures.  Develops Capital Requests when necessary.  Works with Management on strategic planning for staffing and operations. Develops and adheres to annual budgets.
  • Effectively documents and communicates production information with subordinates, supervisory peers, managers and support groups (QA, Sanitation, Warehouse & Maintenance).  Communicates business information to supervisors and employees using and interpreting the key measures at a minimum of once a quarter.  Communicates specific performance expectations for supervision to include appropriate key operator and Daily/Weekly Huddle meetings with their employees.  Effectively communicates with Plant Manager and support staff in a timely manner.  Incorporates various forms of communication such as one-on-one discussion, written reports, e-mail and telephone.  Develops presentations and delivers recommendations to leadership. Interfaces with customer service, planning and other departments to meet customer needs.
  • Supports new product development activities from ideation to post-launch review, partnering with support department personnel to ensure successful, profitable product launches.  Coordinates required support for new product trials. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 10+ years experience in a manufacturing supervisory or management role, food production environment a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Previous experience using ERP software such as SAP, NAV, or Oracle
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools
  • Very knowledgeable and practiced with a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of tasks. Effectively leads and directs the work of others.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. 
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
